Getting started with WordPress first you should know about WordPress that what is it, why you should use it and is it really a good CMS(Content Management System) for building websites and storing your data. Lets go in deep step by step.

What is a WordPress?

WordPress is Content Management System written PHP programming language and paired with a MySQL or MariaDB database. Feature include plugin architecture and template system referred to as themes.

So, what is a CMS? I wrote this word above and I think lot of you guys don’t know what is a CMS. Don’t worry i will explain it.

A content management system, often abbreviated as CMS, is software that helps users create, manage, and modify content on a website without the need for specialized technical knowledge.

In simpler language, a content management system is a tool that helps you build a website without needing to write all the code from scratch (or even know how to code at all).

Instead of building your own system for creating web pages, storing images, and other functions, the content management system handles all that basic infrastructure stuff for you so that you can focus on more forward-facing parts of your website.

This is how WordPress CMS looks like.

I think this is enough knowing a CMS.

So, lets jump into main topic, what is WordPress?

At its core, WordPress is the simplest, most popular way to create your own website or blog. In fact, WordPress powers over 35.2% of all the websites on the Internet. Yes — more than one in four websites that you visit are likely powered by WordPress.

Simply put, it’s the best way to build a website. You can build many types of websites using WordPress there is no limitation to it. Yes, but you can not build a SPA(Single page Application) like ReactJs, then for that you need to use WordPress as headless simply you are using it as a CMS there will be no front-end to it. If you want to know more just google.

Types of website you can build.

  • Business websites
  • eCommerce stores
  • Blogs
  • Portfolios
  • Resumes
  • Forums
  • Social networks
  • Membership sites
  • …pretty much anything else you can dream up.

What’s The Difference Between WordPress.org and WordPress.com?

Most of the time, when people say “WordPress”, they mean the self-hosted WordPress available at WordPress.org. If you want to truly own your website, self-hosted WordPress.org is almost always the best option.

  • WordPress.org, often called self-hosted WordPress, is the free, open-source WordPress software that you can install on your own web host to create a website that’s 100% your own.
  • WordPress.com is a for-profit, paid service that is powered by the WordPress.org software. It’s simple to use, but you lose much of the flexibility of the self-hosted WordPress.

All you need to do to get started with self-hosted WordPress is purchase web hosting and a domain name.

Why should you use it.

Why you bother yourself of using it whether you are a developer want to build a website or you are a blogger do not know how to code. Well this software is for everyone to use. Yes if you do not know anything about coding you can also build you own website without hiring a developer. In minutes you can start writing your blogs. I will be writing an article on it ‘WordPress for Non-programmers’ in future. For developers I think this is a best website builder present on internet. Let’s talk about reasons to use it.

WordPress Is Free And Open Source.

One of the biggest benefits of WordPress is that it’s free, open-source software. While you will need to pay a little bit for hosting, you will never have to pay just to use the WordPress software, which isn’t the case with alternatives like Squarespace. You can also find lots of open-source plugins and themes.

WordPress Is Extensible

Even if you aren’t a developer, you can easily modify your website thanks to WordPress’ huge ecosystem of themes and plugins:

  • Themes — these primarily change how your website looks.
  • Plugins — these primarily change how your website functions. Plugins can be something small, like a contact form, or huge, like creating an eCommerce store.

WordPress Is Easy To Install

Think you need to be a tech genius to create your own website? Think again! If you can click a few buttons, you can install WordPress on your site.

Nowadays, most web hosts either:

  • Offer to preinstall WordPress for you so that your site is ready to go right away.
  • Give you dedicated tools that make the install process very beginner-friendly.

It’s Easy To Find WordPress Help

Because WordPress is so popular, it’s easy to find help if you ever run into any issues. There are heaps of…

  • Blogs
  • Tutorials
  • Forums
  • Facebook Groups
  • Developers

…that you can turn to for free and paid help if needed.

There is lot present on internet about WordPress you can find it by just googling it. I will be writing more article on WordPress development in easy steps and will be covering all parts of WordPress.

Thank you for reading my article, and Please leave a comment. So that i can write more effective articles. 😊 🙂
